"Bikes for everybody, and everybody on bikes."

That best encapsulates Scott McCrary's mission when founding TTR Bikes almost 9 years ago. He was interested in helping underserved communities of bicyclists: tandemers, recumbent riders, and touring enthusiasts. Along the way he discovered that recumbent bikes and trikes could not only be speed machines, but could also be a great platform for people with physical challenges that did not allow them to ride traditional bikes comfortably. He found that tandems weren't just for well-to-do middle-aged couples but for young families who wanted to spend time with their kids while enjoying the outdoors, and that touring had an appeal that crossed all kinds of boundaries. Since we became the go-to shop for a lot of things that more traditional bike shops left alone, we found ourselves branching out into the further reaches of bikedom . . . and meeting a really eclectic and interesting bunch of people along the way. In 2008, Nathaniel McCrary took ownership of the shop upon its move to the our current location on Hudson Street in downtown Greenville. We had more space, and an expanded mission—commuter bikes, city bikes, cruisers, bikes for adventures of all kinds, from grocery runs to gravel grinders.

These guys do the work.
These guys carry the water . . .
This guy calls the shots
but this guy calls the shots.

We love to sell bikes. But beyond that, we love to see people riding bikes, no matter what kind they are. Bikes are democratic. They unite us across all kinds of divisions and boundaries. In our location in the Southernside neighborhood in Greenville, we've helped all kinds of people find bikes that have let them play harder or work more efficiently--bikes that sometimes have changed peoples lives. We've sold bikes to men and to women, the old and the young, to people of diverse social background and heritage--in one weekend we had a Pentecostal minister and an anarchist united in praise of their new bikes . . . that's really fun for us. These are the principles that Scott set out when he started TTR, and we've added to them over time, but we think they encapsulate our shop and our values pretty well.
