Ever had a silly crush on a bike? A bike that's impractical or redundant or somehow unsuited to you . . . that you still can't stop thinking about. A bike that makes you say things like:
Well, I could probably put a longer stem on it . . .
I could use a dedicated good-weather fast commuter . . .
Maybe if I had an x I would do more y . . .
On the other hand, it may make your spouse say things like:
Didn't you just get a bike? Do I get one?
What is "cyclocross?" Are you making that up?
or simply:
No.
It may be the perfect bike for someone else, just not for you.
But you can't quite shake it.
For me, this week, this is that bike:
That's the Electra Boney Finger 3i. Hydroformed aluminum frame, 3 speeds in the hub and the same geometry as the beloved Electra Townie. If you know me, you'd know that it's not my style—not by a long shot. But at $699, it's a more attainable bike crush than, say, this. Or this. So I'll just have to let it haunt my thoughts for a while longer until it's replaced by something else. For another person, though, it's not an inappropriate bike crush, it's a soul mate.
