The Burley Travoy urban utility trailer has been making the rounds since early this year (see here), but now we have them in stock to check out for ourselves. Burley has an established track record making trailers, but this one is something altogether different, and it looks like a winner.

That light you see it is the heavenly aura that surrounds products from companies that make smart products for practical cyclists.
Our connection to Burley goes back to the Burley Design Co-op days, when we were Burley dealers and they were making high-quality, attractively-priced tandems, recumbents, and touring bikes to go along with their line of bike trailers. Their corporate structure and distribution model changed and they got out of the bike-making business, but they've continued to make high quality trailers for child- or cargo-hauling duty.
I don't have much to add to the existing reviews of the Travoy, except to say that I was impressed by three things: its light weight, its compactness, and the ease of the triple folding mechanism. In seconds flat, it goes from being attached to the back of a bike to collapsing upon itself and packing into its own cargo bag, which is about 16x24. The fact that each step in the process can be effected one-handed is impressive to me.
My only caveat is that I wonder how the the plastic joint pieces will hold up to long-term heavy usage. It's not a gripe exactly, because the plastic pieces are one of the things that keeps the weight down. It also appears that, if broken, they would be easily replaceable. In general, it impresses me a well thought addition to the cargo carrying universe.
