Always Be Closing? Nope. Sorry, Alec Baldwin fans. Today's ABCs are an Awesome Beer Carrier and an Ageless Bike Champ.
That marvelous beast is the Pub Bike, built by Metrofiets for Portland brewer Hopworks. It's featured in a nice beginners' round-up of cargo bikes found in Grist magazine this week. I ran across the Pub Bike in another context and was going to post it (why? uh, because it's AWESOME), then local Xtracycle pilot Jen sent me the Grist piece, which also features it. (Jen is a lot like Google: mobile, wireless, and capable of delivering tons of relevant data almost instantaneously. She is unlike Google in that she doesn't roll around town swiping info from your wireless network).
Next up is a double dose of good news from the US DOT. Bike/ped trips continue to rise, and DC gets some very symbolically meaningful bike lanes. I was sorry to see that Rep. Blumenauer is no longer rocking his pastel blue Lazer Urbanize helmet. He's sporting some biker-looking lid that IMO can't touch the jaunty polo-meets-Tron aesthetic of the Urbanize.
Palmetto Cycling Coalition director Rachael Kefalos had a nice guest column in The State today.
Finally, on a different note, France's Jeannie Longo won her country's national time trial championship for the zillionth time. She's 51 and has a page of palmares longer than one of Manute Bol's femurs.

Respect to Jeannie and peace to Manute. ABC-ya, folks.
