Touring & Bikepacking

Touring bicycles are probably the most familiar of the specialty bikes at TTR. They may look more conventional than a tandem or a trike, but there are important design details that put touring bikes a class of their own.

Most experienced bike tourers will tell you that the choice of bike and the choice of gear often make a BIG difference in the enjoyment and the success of their adventures. That's what the "Touring" part of TTR is about: helping better equip you with quality gear and with good advice to make your trip more enjoyable.

The Co-Motion Americano
The Co-Motion Americano

One of the things we'll focus on is accessing the knowledge pool of the more experienced touring/commuting types in our biking community and making it available to our customers. There is much to learn...and in a good tour, the bike should be a reliable, trusted tool, not the focus! Focus on the mountain range, the sunset, the vineyards-but not the broken spokes, exhausted brake components, or the cracked pannier rack!

Depending on what your "tour" is, you may already have a suitable bike. On the other hand, there's a class of bikes purpose-built for the rigors of touring, and we have these in inventory, along with the gear that is appropriate to your particular exploring interest.

Interest in this segment of the bike market has grown exponentially in recent years, and there are many more choices for bikes and gear than existed just a few years ago. Also, there are many dedicated "bikepacking"-style offerings these days, for people who like that ideal marriage between mountain bikes and lightweight camping gear. Salsa Cycles is a leader in this area, and we're proud to carry not just bikes that are suitable for this kind of rugged adventure, but frame bags and accessories, too.

We are authorized dealers of:

  • Co-Motion —Thoughtful geometry and painstaking execution in Co-Motion's take on classic design. They're beautiful, go-anywhere bikes. Recently CoMo has added a 26"-wheel all terrain vehicle, the Pangea, and an off-the-peg Rohloff-equipped Americano
  • Salsa Cycles — "Adventure by Bike" is Salsa's mantra, and they have a stable of bikes designed with that in mind: the disc-equipped Vaya, the adventure 29er Fargo, and the 2012 Casseroll, which would make a tight sport-tourer or rando bike. New in 2013 is the Colossal, a disc-equipped road bike that could be a lean and mean on-road lightweight adventure platform.
  • Surly Long Haul Trucker LHTs are in stock now in size 43, 52, 54, 56, 58 . . . the Disc Trucker is in stock now, along with the Cross Check.
  • Norco — Norco's disc-equipped loaded touring bike, the Cabot, returns in 2013.

We also stock panniers and other touring-style bags, racks, fenders, lights, etc. (See the Gear section.)
